Breaking News: Greenlight for ENCTrack
It has almost been two years ago since Datema launched the revolutionary ENCTrack service. As you might have learned trough the international media, the launch triggered a considerable debate in the Hydrographic and Maritime community, as a result of which Datema was immediately asked to postpone further roll-out of the service, at least until the debate came to a conclusion.
The debate centered on the use of charts in the planning stage of voyage preparation and was first raised by the UKHO immediately after the launch of ENCTrack at Norshipping. In the preparation phase to the initial launch of the service Primar Stavanger, as Datema’s supplier of ENCs, had studied it’s contracts with other nations and IC-ENC and concluded that the intended mode of operation of ENCTrack would be possible under the existing terms and conditions. However immediately after the launch, the UKHO as being a member of IC-ENC took issue with the service and sought clarification with IC-ENC.
Finally, after two years off lobbying and debate, Primar and the IC-ENC have managed to align their business terms, whereby we have managed to secure the necessary permissions from the IC-ENC members allowing us to re-launch our revolutionary ENCTrack distribution system for ENCs. The member countries of IC-ENC already approved pay-as-you sail licensing in 2010 under strict conditions. Following, Datema has performed a number of tests and trials to meet those conditions, and final approval was granted in March 2011. The official approval has become effective from the 1st of April 2011.
Despite the serious delay in introduction, the new service could not have come at a more opportune time, as the IMO has approved the amendments to SOLAS for the use of ECDIS and electronic charts from July 2012. As the ENCTrack service addresses many of the existing issues surrounding the licensing of ENCs like inflexibility, pricing, training and license management, we expect that mariners’ world wide will again greet the ‘new service’ with great enthusiasm.
We truly believe that the ENCTrack service is setting the new standard for the future. At the same time we are working hard to develop the next version of our existing pre-paid ENC-Online service. We have full confidence that we have all the solutions in place to answer any of your requirements.
